Switching from Bukku

Switch from Bukku to Taokeh

Your trial balance, aged receivables and payables, contacts and product catalogue come across from Bukku; posted transaction history does not, and stays in Bukku as your archive.

Bukku is a capable Malaysian cloud accounting tool, and a lot of Malaysian businesses start on its free plan for good reason. If it still fits, stay. What usually ends it is not the software. It is the first month you need to do something the free plan will not let you do. Taokeh's switch wizard reads the files Bukku exports and turns them into your opening balances, figure by figure. Here's exactly how the move works.

Why people move, and when

Each one comes from what the product itself publishes. If none of them is your situation, staying is the right answer.

The free plan stops right before the ledger

Bukku's own compare grid draws the line clearly: the free Launch plan has no purchases and no journal entries. You can invoice forever, but you cannot record a single supplier bill on it, and bank feeds, the fixed-asset register and the full report set sit above it too (bukku.my, checked August 2026). So the invoicing stays free; the day you want a purchase recorded or a proper set of reports, you are on a paid plan.

Payroll arrives as a file you upload, every month

Bukku's compare grid labels the row "Payroll integrations (via file upload)" — you run payroll somewhere else, download a summary, and drop it in so the journals appear (bukku.my, checked August 2026). It works, and it is a manual step that never goes away. And on the free plan the row is absent, because with no journal entries the file has nowhere to land.

Getting busier will not move you. Growing will

However many invoices you send, the free plan keeps taking them. What actually forces the decision is the week you buy stock, hire your first staff member, or register for SST — because each of those needs a purchase recorded, a payroll run or a return filed. If none of that has happened to you yet, this page can wait.

Plugging your own AI in is not an option we could find

We looked for an official Bukku connector that lets the AI assistant you already pay for read your books, and did not find one; a community-built client exists, which is not the same as the vendor shipping and supporting it. That is a question worth putting to them directly rather than taking from us — but if you want your own AI reading your live books, ask it before you decide.

What comes across, and what stays behind

Your dataComes across?How
Trial balanceYesUpload Bukku’s trial-balance export, including the backup-workbook format. Taokeh matches each account to your chart, and you confirm every figure before a line posts.
Customers and suppliersYesImport Bukku’s combined customer-and-supplier list, which Taokeh sorts to the right side using the per-row flag, so every name and detail is ready before your first document.
Aged receivablesYes, invoice by invoiceBukku’s aged-receivables report becomes your opening customer balances.
Aged payablesYes, bill by billBukku’s aged-payables report becomes your opening supplier balances.
Products and opening stockYesYour product list and opening quantities, reconciled to the cent before the wizard lets you lock.
Posted transaction historyNoIt stays in Bukku as your archive. Taokeh starts from a locked opening balance dated on your cutover date.

Bring your books across in one sitting

Bukku's exports have their own quirks — its backup and import workbooks carry a marker column, its headers wear footnote markers like “Legal Name (1)”, and customers and suppliers arrive together in one file. The switch wizard reads all of that, so you upload what Bukku gives you and confirm the figures — no reformatting by hand.

  1. Set your cutover date

Pick the day your Taokeh books begin — usually your last day in Bukku. Every opening figure is dated on or before it.

  2. Import your trial balance

Upload Bukku's trial-balance export — including the backup-workbook format. Taokeh strips the marker column and footnote-tagged headers automatically, reads your balances, and suggests where each account maps.

  3. Bring your contacts

Bukku exports customers and suppliers in one list, flagged per row. Taokeh reads those flags and sorts each contact to the right side for you.

  4. Add your aged receivables

Upload Bukku's aged-receivables report so who-owes-you-what carries across, invoice by invoice.

  5. Add your aged payables

Same for what you owe — your aged-payables report becomes your opening supplier balances.

  6. Products, opening stock, then review & lock

Bring your product list and opening stock, run the reconciliation drill-down until every difference is explained, then lock your opening balances and you're live.

Most services businesses land their opening balances in one evening, unassisted. If you carry stock, the wizard reconciles your opening inventory to the cent before it lets you lock — so trading businesses tie out cleanly rather than quickly. Either way, nothing posts until you've confirmed it, and a line-by-line reconciliation explains any difference.

Built for Bukku's real exports

We tested the wizard against Bukku's actual export shapes — the marker-column backup workbooks, the footnote-marked headers, the combined customer-and-supplier list. You upload the file Bukku gives you; you don't massage it into a template first.

What you get once you're across

Talk to your books

Connect the AI assistant you already use — Claude, ChatGPT and more — and just ask: “How were sales this month?”, “Who owes me money?” It reads your live books and files drafts you approve; it can never post on its own.

AI in the box, and your own AI on top

You do not have to buy anything extra to get the AI. The RM45 base has it already: a built-in assistant answers your how-do-I questions anywhere in the app — where a setting lives, how to raise a credit note — and on the /go screen you type what happened in plain language and the entry is drafted for you, with 10 AI credits a month included and more available as a pack. Then, if you want your own AI in your books, the Ask Taokeh connector adds RM29 a month — RM74 a month all in, since the connector runs on top of the base — and the assistant you already pay for reads your live books and your payroll and files drafts you approve. It can never post on its own.

Your selling channels, on the same ledger

Connect Shopee, TikTok Shop and Shopify and orders land as invoices with the platform fee already netted — each payout tied to your bank deposit, with no separate reconciliation tool to subscribe to.

LHDN-ready payroll and e-Invoice

Full statutory payroll — EPF, SOCSO, EIS, PCB, HRDF and zakat. LHDN confirmed our PCB (MTD) 2026 calculation in writing (letter ref 2026-256, August 2026), and a consolidated e-invoice we submitted came back Valid on LHDN's MyInvois preproduction portal.

One system, one base price

RM45 a month covers the books, the MyInvois e-Invoice export and payroll for your first 2 staff — then RM5 per extra staff per month. No second subscription for payroll, no monthly file to carry between two systems, and only the add-ons you switch on. Your data is always yours: full export, any time.

Your options if you are leaving Bukku

Worth seeing all of them side by side before you move anything.

Capability lines only. No prices, and no claim about which one suits your business — that depends on your books.

Switching from Bukku — your questions

Will I lose my history when I move from Bukku?

Your history stays in Bukku — export it and keep it. Taokeh starts you from a clean cutover: your trial balance, open invoices and bills, contacts and opening stock become your opening position, and you carry on from there. You're not re-keying a year of transactions.

What do I export from Bukku?

The files Bukku already produces: your trial balance (including its backup-workbook export), your aged receivables and payables, and your combined customer-and-supplier list. The wizard handles Bukku's marker columns and footnote-tagged headers for you.

Does the wizard import my Bukku transactions?

It brings your opening position across — balances, open invoices and bills, contacts and opening stock — not your full transaction history. That's the clean way to switch: you start Taokeh from a locked opening balance and keep your detailed Bukku history in Bukku's own export. If you upload a Bukku transaction template by mistake, the wizard recognises it and points you to the right step.

How long does it take?

If you run a services business, most people finish their opening balances in an evening. If you carry stock, plan a little longer: the wizard ties your opening inventory out to the cent before it lets you lock. There's no rush — you can stop and resume anytime.

Can I try it before I commit?

Yes — start a free 14-day trial, no card required, and run the switch wizard on your real Bukku exports. Nothing posts to your books until you confirm and lock.

What do I give up by leaving Bukku?

Direct bank feeds, first: Bukku connects to a Malaysian bank feed and Taokeh imports statement files, so that is a real step you would be taking on. Their accountant directory is real too: it is somewhere to find a bookkeeper who already knows the software, and we have nothing like it. And if invoicing really is all you do, their free plan costs you nothing and we do not have an answer to free — stay there, and come back the month you start recording bills.
