Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your accounting books (Malaysia, 2026)

What you need to connect

Three things, and none of them technical:

• A Taokeh company with your books in it. Taokeh, the Malaysian SME accounting software by Enya Venture, keeps your sales, expenses, bank, stock and payroll on one ledger, and the connector reads those same live books — nothing separate to export or sync.
• The Ask Taokeh connector add-on: RM29 a month as at July 2026, and included in the 14-day free trial. You switch it on from inside Taokeh, and only admin and bookkeeper seats can turn it on or use it.
• It is a flat monthly price with no per-question metering — you bring your own AI subscription. Confirm the current price on the pricing page before you rely on it.
• An AI assistant that supports connectors — Claude or ChatGPT, or an MCP client such as Claude Desktop, Cursor or VS Code.
• On the assistant side, the connection is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for letting an AI assistant reach an outside system.
• In practice it works with Claude (the one-click connector on claude.ai, plus Claude Desktop and Claude Code), ChatGPT (as a custom connector), and MCP-capable clients like Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf. Taokeh’s connector endpoint is taokeh.my/mcp.

How to connect your assistant, step by step

Connecting takes a few minutes and no technical setup: turn the connector on inside Taokeh, add Taokeh as a custom connector in your assistant using the endpoint taokeh.my/mcp, approve access on the consent screen, and choose whether the assistant may only read or may also file drafts.

• Read-only lets the assistant answer questions from your books and nothing more.
• Read + drafts additionally lets it file pending entries — an expense, an invoice, a bill, a receipt — that still have to be approved by a human before they post.
• You choose the scope on the consent screen, and you can reconnect at a different scope later.
• You can disconnect an assistant at any time, after which its access stops immediately.

What to try first

Start with questions you would otherwise open a report for.

• In English: “Who owes me money, and which invoices are overdue?”, “How were sales this month compared with last?”, “How many units of that product do I have left?”, “What did I spend so far this month?”
• In Bahasa Malaysia, ask exactly the same way: “berapa untung bulan ni lepas tolak yuran Shopee?” (how much profit this month after Shopee fees), “siapa berhutang dengan saya?” (who owes me money).
• The assistant reads the answer from your live books and itemises it — the Shopee question, for instance, comes back with commission, service and transaction fees broken out.
• Then try handing over paperwork. Say “record RM85 diesel” and attach a photo of the receipt: the assistant files a pending expense draft with the receipt attached, and you approve it with one tap — the photo lands on the posted entry automatically.
• The same works for a supplier bill (“here’s the supplier bill from Tasik Timber — file it”) and for a bank statement (“import this statement so I can reconcile”), which stages its rows into Banking → Review rather than posting anything.
• Because it is your own assistant, your books sit alongside the other tools it can already reach. Ask it to read your overdue invoices and draft a payment-reminder email — the send is always yours to press.

The safety model: it reads freely, but every entry is a draft you approve

The AI can read your books freely, but it can never post to them. Every entry it creates — an expense, an invoice, a quote, a bill, a receipt — and every change it proposes to a record you already have — a customer’s tax id, a staff detail, a product — is filed as a pending draft that a human approves before anything moves.

• This is structural rather than a setting you toggle: no connector tool is able to post, and every read runs inside a read-only database transaction, so even a mistake cannot write to your accounts.
• You approve a draft one of two ways. In the app, a “Drafts from your AI” review strip appears on the relevant page (Expenses, Invoices, Bills or Quotes).
• Or the assistant hands you a one-tap approval link that stays valid for 72 hours. The link only opens an Approve/Reject card and still requires you to be signed in to Taokeh as an admin or bookkeeper — it cannot approve on its own, and no AI can approve for you.
• Nothing connects until you approve it on a consent screen, and only admin and bookkeeper seats can connect or use the connector.
• Every request is isolated to your own company at the database level, so no one else’s books are ever in reach.
• The connector never sends anything outward on your behalf — it hands you a link to a document rather than emailing anyone.

Honest limits

A few things are deliberately out of scope.

• The AI cannot post — drafts always wait for a human, by design, so there is no “auto-post” mode to turn on.
• It is not a general “analyse my data” tool — it reads your books and drafts documents, nothing more.
• The connector is a flat monthly add-on and you bring your own AI subscription, so there is no per-question metering on the connector itself.
• Taokeh’s in-app AI document scan is a separate feature that is metered against a monthly credit allowance — that is not the same thing as asking a question through the connector.
• It only works with assistants that support connectors or MCP. A chat app without connector support cannot reach your books.
• As with any figure in this guide, confirm the current connector price and the scope details in Taokeh before you rely on them.

Why this beats a chatbot built into the accounting app

A chatbot built into an accounting app only knows the one app it lives in, and you can only use it there.

A bring-your-own-AI connector is the opposite: you keep using the assistant you already work in — Claude or ChatGPT — and your books become one more thing it can reach, alongside your email, your documents and the rest of your workflow.

• You can ask a single assistant to read your overdue invoices and draft the chase email in one move, and you are never locked into one vendor’s chatbot.
• The approach ages better: a built-in chatbot is only ever as good as the model its vendor ships, while a bring-your-own-AI connector improves the moment your assistant does, because you choose the assistant.
• The safety trade is explicit and in your favour: the connector reads freely but drafts every write, so opening your books to a capable general-purpose assistant never means letting it post to your accounts.
